I can’t believe I let this one fall through the cracks as it far as it has. A week ago, already-established hip-hop artists Theophilus London & Jesse Boykin III joined forces to form the group Paris 96. This first single Afternoon got production from the one and only Xaphoon Jones and you should be keeping an eye out for an EP coming sometime this April. I could listen to this all day; the production has SOO many layers from wailing organs and vocal samples to ambient blips that create a really open soundscape and the last 30 seconds is just awesome. Well that didn’t take long. After we got another leak yesterday, Xaphoon Jones decides that today is the day to drop the final installment of the Xaphoon Jones Mixtape series, XJV3. We’ve seen a few of the tracks before like his Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay remix and the awesome bootleg of Meek Mill’s Amen but the rest of the tracks are all new.
It’s awesome seeing the man Yuri Beats get his shot at the Orange Juice Break (with some amazing production) and we get a Gucci Mane verse added on to the remix of High For This as well as Xaph’s take on Diplo’s bounce banger Express Yourself. There’s an interview he did with ClubTapes which you should all take a couple minutes to check out to see why Noah Beresin is one of the smartest dudes in the business right now and grab the entire tape ASAP!

After giving you the Xaphoon Jones remix to Trojans, the huge single from Atlas Genius, I’ve got two brand new remixes to show you guys. First off is the new take from our very own Valera, who’s unique style of dubstep has been gaining more and more traction after taking runner up in the remix contest for Ken Loi’s All It Takes, this is his submission for Neon Gold’s first official remix competition. Next up is the remix from Fred Falke, which features a lot of the same indie-dance rooftop party energy that I’ve come to associate with acts like The Knocks and is steadily climbing up the Hype Machine to the top.

Friend of Xaphoon Jones and all around fire beat-maker Yuri Beats just dropped a beat tape today on his BandCamp, one featuring a guest vocal from Chiddy of Chiddy Bang. From top to bottom this tape is littered with gold, the first song Wayward Dream brings all sorts of funk with a great vocal sample and Freedom is one of my personal favorites. Chiddy Bang is making some waves today with the release of the Mind Your Manners EP, a 3 pack of tracks which features the unreleased track Twisted as well as two remixes of the title track; one with a verse from Travie McCoy that we posted a lil while ago as well as the “Herve’s No One Like Me Remix” which I can’t wait to hear.
They’re gonna be all over the US in support of this one with stops in Delaware for the Firefly Music Festival with the Black Keys, Lupe Fiasco & The Killers, then making appearances at the Under the Influence of Music tour with Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller before rounding out the summer with a tour of the west coast with FUN. Keep it swelly kids.

While I was nearly positive that this track was perfect exactly the was, it seems as though Monsieur Adi is looking to sway my opinion. Flipping the simple Xaphoon Jones production 180 degrees into a full blown symphony, the delicate Ellie Goulding vocals soar perfectly above the track till the very end. Go into it with an open mind, it sounds absolutely nothing like the original (and I mean that in the best way possible).

Good news everybody! Neon Gold has confirmed that Xaphoon Jones is bringing us the third installment of his mixtape series XJV3! If this bootleg using St. Lucia’s We Got It Wrong and Madeon’s Que Veux Tu” (feat. Yelle) is any indication of the quality to expect, this nu disco summer jam sets the bar pretty high.
