Love it or hate it, the electronic music phenomenon is in it for the long haul. Turns out that the people at Cirque du Sole are on board to help Skrillex begin his residency at newly opening Las Vegas nightclub LIGHTS in the Mandalay Bay hotel on April 26th. Moving from the main stage of major music festivals to the cutting edge of club life will be an adjustment for Sonny Moore but thankfully he doesn’t have to go it alone. The Vegas club is also bringing in 1/3 of Swedish House Mafia in Sebastian Ingrosso and up & coming superstar Zedd who has been helping Lady Gaga on her upcoming Artpop album. In the Rolling Stone article that you can see in the hat-tip below, Skrillex is described as “cautious” of using the Cirque du Sole dancers as a part of his show:
“It’s not about having acrobats for my set,” he says. “For me, personally, the objective is to have something based around your music and something you want to dance to, not something you want to stare at the whole time. But how do you make the environment completely immersive? I think that’s the goal for my show, at least.”
Zedd goes on to add that his time working with Lady Gaga has really brought him to think of the live performance of his music in a different way:
“Gaga’s a really great example. We’ve seen all sorts of production in dance music, but when I personally watched her production for the first time, I was reminded of how much there is we did not think of yet, and one big part of it is maybe the human touch,” he says. “We can have the brightest lights and everything we want to have, but what I liked about Gaga’s show was [that] there’s a lot of humanity; there are a lot of dancers and it’s almost like a theater play with music. I could see parts of that in the whole LIGHT concept.”
Regardless, this is just another huge step in the world of electronic dance music and further proof that it’s traction in the mainstream and business lights is here to stay. Sound off in the comments with which DJ you’d wanna see get a residency in Sin City!
