Not sure what the occassion was that warranted the free giveaway of this Macklemore & Ryan Lewis track from Major Lazer but I’m certainly not complaining. The dancehalled out sounds of Major Lazer fit perfectly with the upbeat nature of the original…not that you should be surprised considering everything Diplo touches turns to gold.

Continuing on my attempt to catch you guys up, Major Lazer surprised everyone and dropped a fourth installment of the LAZER STRIKES BACK series. Haven’t had a chance to listen to the full project but I’ll tell you that the Diplo, Shelco Garcia, and Teenwolf remix of No Guns Allowed is unbelievable (as if the original wasn’t already awesome). I’m not one for conspiracy theories but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the new Major Lazer album Free The Universe was never actually “delayed”. After pushing the date back multiple times, Diplo and the guys have instead launched 3 FREE promo releases titled Lazer Strikes Back…not bad for some hype material. The first and second volumes had some great remies of tracks from the Get Free EP and this is no different. It’s even got a moombahton remix of Get Free from…Avicii? I guess not that farfetched after his country-infused hoedown of an Ultra Music Festival Set. Free The Universe is slated for a release on 4/16 via Mad Decent!

A release from Snoop Lion, Drake and Snoop’s daughter Cori B. is definitely not what I was expecting to stumble on when I woke up today. Produced by Major Lazer, the Diplo led crew creates a huge soundscape complete with gentle keys, big time tribal drums and a beautiful childrens voices to sing the hook. Say what you want but as expected, Drake comes through with a solid 16 bars and the song builds to an enraptured climax by the end.

This is the TNJ official Ultra Music Festival 2013 Weekend One recap post. While we couldn’t wait another second to give you the Porter Robinson set at sunset, we decided to hold off until the end of the weekend to give you guys the full roundup of the best sets from the first weekend of UMF. There was no shortage of greatness from TNJ favorites such as The M Machine, Flosstradamus and Major Lazer and don’t forget that Hardwell set that put Ultra Music Festival as a worldwide trend on Twitter. Dillon Francis had a human error moment and blamed it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol (but seriously Dilly if you don’t fuck up you’re not trying…just don’t make it harder than it has to be) while Kaskade & Armin Van Buuren proved why they’re festival Main Stage mainstays.
