This is the TNJ official Ultra Music Festival 2013 Weekend One recap post. While we couldn’t wait another second to give you the Porter Robinson set at sunset, we decided to hold off until the end of the weekend to give you guys the full roundup of the best sets from the first weekend of UMF. There was no shortage of greatness from TNJ favorites such as The M Machine, Flosstradamus and Major Lazer and don’t forget that Hardwell set that put Ultra Music Festival as a worldwide trend on Twitter. Dillon Francis had a human error moment and blamed it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol (but seriously Dilly if you don’t fuck up you’re not trying…just don’t make it harder than it has to be) while Kaskade & Armin Van Buuren proved why they’re festival Main Stage mainstays. When you wanna find all that is right about the electronic music scene, look to the 18 year old French phenom Madeon and everything that he represents. His flawless production and signature launchpad setup that allows him to bring an element of true live performance to his sets puts him miles apart from most of the top artists in the industry. I’m not sure what it is about Australian radio spot Triple J that encourages every artist to bring their A+ game to mixes for the station but after Porter Robinson’s face melting set and this flawless 46 track 30 minute mix, I can’t wait to see what the next artist will contribute.

A hidden gem on the full EP for Madeon’s track The City, 18 year old French phenom Hugo Pierre Leclercq recruits the Belgian drum and bass force Netsky for an amazing remix. Stripping it down to the bare bones and adding ambient chord play, this one really took me back.

I’ve been wrestling with the idea of whether to post this or not over the last couple days and in the name of being impulsive, I decided to go for it. This is a half hour or so mix that I put together last week under my SoundCloud name McRandy that showcases what I’ve been listening to and some of my favorite transitions between songs that I love to mess with. In the coming months, we can hopefully get mixes done by other artists instead of my Virtual DJ efforts but all in all, I’m pretty happy with this mix. Madeon x NERVO – Love Icarus (Aylen Mashup)

Aylen pumps out tracks at a rate unlike anything I’ve ever seen and the crazy thing is that they’re all the constantly high quality you’ve come to expect. He finds a great marriage in the form of the NERVO twins’ vocals from You’re Gonna Love Again and the beautiful instrumental from the then 17 year old Madeon’s major debut Icarus for a perfectly crafted mashup. I see nothing but a bright future for Andrew Lin and TNJ couldn’t be happier.

One of the most distinguishing features of Madeon’s brand of EDM is that his music is structured to be a concise song and not particularly geared for a club environment of 9 minute mixes. He’s cited his influence from The Beatles as the reason for that approach and also went on to include Daft Punk in that list and its really apparent in this song. This kid’s gonna have a real nice long career and I couldn’t be happier. He goes right near the top of the list of people I need to see live!

Let’s be honest, did anyone really think that this would be anything short of masterful? While it’s impossible to argue that anyone could make Madeon’s NBC commercial-worthy single Finale better, it’s entirely ok to give this credit as an unbelievable interpretation of the original. This one is absolutely full of Dillon Francis’ signature sexy ass moombah vibes and the actual musicality of the track is on point…not too surprising. Go grab this one on a YouTube converter if you really need to or support the release on Beatport on August 16th. By the way, give this guy (and his cat) a follow on Twitter, I assure you that you won’t be dissapointed.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw this. Dillon Francis dropped this one in San Fransisco earlier in July and while there have been rumblings of a remix from him of Madeon’s chart topping Finale, this is the first proof I have of it. Also, I keep referencing Dillon dropping Kill Paris’ velvet smooth track I Wanna Be Your Lover in his sets and it just so happens to be the track he drops in after. Shouts to VinylPenetration for the find!
