Just today Disclosure uploaded a brand new edit of the Pharrell and Jay Z collaboration Frontin, chock full of their soulful and dancable production to accent the original Pharrell vocals. Jay Electronica & Jay Z Remix Drake’s We Made It

For the record, it is never a bad idea infusing your track with vocal samples from Kenny Powers. That said, it is nothing if not refreshing to hear Jay Electronica on a track and with Jay Z none the less. Both rappers take the theme “We Made It” to look back on the black community’s slave roots and Jay Z demolishes his verse in typical fashion with lines like:

Sorry mister Drizzy for so much art talk
Silly me rappin’ ‘bout shit that I really bought
Why these rappers rap about guns they ain’t shot?
And a bunch of other silly shit that they ain’t got

You can grab the download link while we patiently await Jay Electronica’s next project Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) although this Noisey article raises a whole other bag of issues.

Jay-Z – Dead Presidents 3 (Prod. by Young Guru)

Jay-Z - Dead Presidents 3

During his live Twitter Q&A session yesterday, Jay-Z gave Young Guru (or Just Blaze) the green light to liberate the elusive full-version of the third installment of “Dead Presidents”. Guru must have been keeping up as he took to SoundCloud to finally liberate the unreleased version. Sadly – as you’ll notice upon playing – the “missing” verse eventually ended up on “Moment Of Clarity” instead. Still, a dope song regardless.

Jay-Z Free Concert on July 8th at Ed Sullivan Theater Confirmed

Jay-Z To Host Free Concert On Ed Sullivan Theater Marquee On July 8th

Has anyone on planet earth ever said no to a Jay-Z free concert? As Jay-Z gets set to release Magna Carta Holy Grail on July 4th, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that Hov has had ever minute detail of this release planned for months to ensure that the hype is at a pure frenzy for the entire summer. Besides a surprise 2 minute commercial in the NBA playoffs to announce the album, a multi-million dollar deal with Samsung that already guarantees the platinum-status of the album, and a show at Yankee Stadium with Justin Timberlake shortly after the albums release, there’s still plenty more up Jay-Z’s sleeve.

Today news broke that Mayor Bloomberg approved the plan for Jay to have a free concert on top for the marquee at The Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC on 53rd St and Broadway on July 8th. The show will be free to fans and will shut down the surrounding area; you can bet your bottom dollar that Scott and I will definitely be there for this one!

Jay-Z To Release New Album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’

There are certain times when you just have to let your jaw sink to the floor when you see the kind of talent that hangs in the same room. This video, introducing the Jay-Z and Samsung partnership to release his next album Magna Carta Holy Grail, features a behind-the-scenes sit down showing Jigga in the room with Timbaland, Rick Rubin, Pharrell & Swizz Beatz. There seems to be some discrepancy as to who “the homeless guy” in the video is. That’s Rick Rubin and you should go read about him if you want to be a good music fan. The first million Samsung Galaxy users who download a custom app on June 24th will be given the album for free three days before the rest of the world on July 4th; everyone else will have to wait until July 7th.

We don’t have any rules. Everyone’s trying to figure it out. That’s why the internet’s like the wild west. The wild wild west. We need to write the new rules.

Jay Z – Dirt Off Your Shoulder (Brillz & Z Trip Remix)

Jay Z - Dirt Off Your Shoulder (Brillz & Z Trip Remix)

It seems just about all but certain that Brillz has solidified himself amongst the top tier of producers to immerse themselves in the “EDM” incarnation of trap music. So much so that he was brought on to Jay-Z’s Life+Times “Trap Nation” mixtape to remix Hov’s classic track Dirt Off Your Shoulder. As one of the few trap producers’ whose tracks I enjoy listening to start to finish, Brillz & Z Trip rework the song perfectly to fit into any DJs set list (like it didn’t already).

The-Dream - High Art ft. Jay-Z

The-Dream’s long-awaited album, IV Play, will be here on May 28. In the meanwhile, he’s shared another single. This one’s with Jay-Z and titled “High Art”. Sadly, this song is not an extended riff on the swap meet joke made at the GRAMMY’s.

Jay-Z – 100$ Bill

Jay-Z - 100$ Bill

We know Jay-Z has been in the studio, but the lid is so tight on whatever he’s been cooking up that fans find whatever seeps through the cracks to be exciting. After “Open Letter” put the Internets in a momentary frenzy, the only foreseeable release from Big Homie was his contribution to The Great Gatsby soundtrack “100$ Bill”, which we receive in full today.

Those interested can hear The Great Gatsby soundtrack can get an advanced listen via NPR. Hear “100$ Bill” below, and see Jay-Z speak on executive producing the film’s soundtrack in an interview via BlackTree TV.

Jay-Z – Open Letter ft. Swizz Beatz (Prod. by Timbaland & Swizz Beatz)

Jay-Z - Open Letter ft. Swizz Beatz (Prod. by Timbaland & Swizz Beatz)

It seems near impossible to find someone more boss than Jay-Z and I don’t think it’s even close. Recently he’s decided he’d find greener pastures than owning a portion of the Brooklyn Nets in favor of opening his own sports agency and signing Robinson Cano as his first client. Then he took a trip to Cuba with Beyonce for their anniversary to once again establish the royal couple of hip-hop’s dominance. From the HuffintonPost,

In a morning call on New York’s Hot 97, Swizz revealed that the song was started in Jay-Z’s office. “I had the portable drum machine with me, then we went down to the 40/40 [club] to watch the game,” he said. “Then [Timbaland] came by and was like, ‘That beat is crazy.’ Next morning, Jay called me with verses.”
