Michal Menert Dedicates Video To His Late Father

There has been little and less lately in the way of music videos that have some substance. While most videos as of late seem to be a festival-ready track set to generic crowd shots at some festival stage, this latest visual from Pretty Lights Music artist Michal Menert immediately got my attention. The track and video are made to honor the memory of his father Tad, whom Michal watched die holding his hand in 2010. The video is powerful and perfectly puts the emotional strain of a close death into the proper perspective.

Here it is. “Your Ghost.” A story of trying to fill the void that eats away at your heart after someone you love passes. I watched my father die before my eyes, holding his hand as he went. Dedicated to you, dad. I miss you everyday.
If this video hits you in any way, please share it. Daniel Goldhaber and Drew Levin did an amazing job facilitating this visual rendition of my emotional struggle.

Listen to the Title Track from Cashmere Cat’s Wedding Bells EP

Cashmere Cat – Wedding Bells

There are certain talents that are hard to ignore. In the time that ThatNewJam went into hibernation, a new force in music came about in the form of Cashmere Cat, a crafter of the damn near cutest songs you ever heard. He gained early attention with remixes like that he did of Miguel’s single Do You Like which capitalized on hip-hop and R&B elements while using a whole new set of textures and sonics. Having just released a brand new single featuring Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa & Jeremih, it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing Cashmere Cat more often in the mainstream light. Having heard the entire EP, I can safely say each song is it’s own distinct idea with it’s own story and feel and it has been on repeat since I manged to get my hands on it. Go follow the link to buy the project on iTunes and listen to the first single from the project With Me below. Get to know Cashmere Cat in the interview with FactMag and check his links below!

Porter Robinson’s New Album is titled WORLDS And He Announced It With A Cryptic Video

TL;DR: Porter’s got a new album coming out, the promo video is 10 HOURS long and littered with cryptic clues. If I had to guess, this album will sound like the beautiful music that could soundtrack the end of the world and I think there might be a release date hidden in the 48 second video loop. Scroll to the bottom and let us know if you can figure out what the hell those symbols mean!

Ok. First thing’s first Happy 10 Year Anniversary of College Dropout Day. One of the most important things about that album is that it showcased Kanye West’s meticulous perfection of everything he does; there is nothing that occurs in anything he does just by accident. Which brings us to this TEN HOUR long Youtube promo video for Porter Robinson’s upcoming album, which we now know is titled Worlds. Porter, much like Kanye, is also obsessed with perfecting what he puts out and he has told his fans numerous times that he is in search of creating an absolutely beautiful experience.

Let me preface this by saying this is entirely my opinion and that this could all be me overanalyzing or reaching. That said I think that this video is an unbelievably well thought out product. First of all the video is 10 hours long…obviously unwatchable in its entirety when really its only a minute of real contact. It’s soundtracked by what I’m guessing to be really LoFi sounding versions of songs from the album.. the song playing during the video sounds like a cinema score for the end of the world. The scenery shows visuals of beautiful sprawling hills and forests purple hue and grainy effect like an old TV. It then cuts to a Tyler Durden-ish variation of the Emergency Broadcast System messages used in the 1960′s if there was every going to be used if there was ever a nuclear threat. Although I’m not sure what the LLA refers to in place of what used to be FCC in the original, note the strikethroughs over the word EMERGENCYs as if that were to instill further calm and the use of WORLDS as if it were a city.

Porter Robinson's WORLD Promo Video May Contain Hidden Release Date?

Here’s where it gets weird. The video breaks down into a detuned robotic voice constantly repeating the word WORLDS, which we know is the name of the album. To make this thing 10 hours means that you can’t scrub through the video easily…moving the slider at all on the video means you’re moving at minutes at a time not seconds. First of all, that means if you wanna see any of the video at all, you have to watch it from the beginning and the entire way through. That also means if you were trying to stop the video at any particular time you wouldn’t be able to scrub to it. Visually, it is a 48 second loop of and various digitally designed shapes and characters (like those seen on Porter Robinson’s Tumblr page), the album title, rapidly glitching text and a kaomoji face that looks to be somewhere between frustrated and upset, much like the face you would make if trying to stop the video for a very small amount of time at a very particular time to see something that might be hidden. So I went frame by frame and pulled the images.

Porter Robinson's WORLD Promo Video May Contain Hidden Release Date?

I can’t make up or down of any of this stuff but if there’s one thing I know about Porter Robinson, there is nothing that he does that isn’t on purpose and even if those other symbols are just other various trolling kaomoji faces, he’s made me think this far into a 48 second loop and for him, I think that’s mission accomplished.

Watch Pretty Lights Play Live with Talib Kweli and Live Band on Conan

pretty lights live

The release of Pretty Lights’ record 2 years in the making, A Color Map Of The Sun has been seen by many (including myself) as a major step in the progression of electronic music. Rather than trying to make a festival track that sounds the same as everyone else for the sake of charting on Beatport, he spent unreal amounts of time painstakingly crafting and recording his own tracks to vinyl so that he could sample them again for his tracks. He joined Zedd in the ranks of “EDM” artists to make debuts on late night TV by hopping on Conan with Talib Kweli and a full live band to play their collaboration “Around The Block”.

Listen to Bassnectar Remix 'Feelin Good' By Nina Simone

This ‘Verve Remixed: The First Ladies’ project has to be one of my favorite things to have come out this summer. The legendary record label has contacted a slew of the hottest producers and DJs in the game right now including Zeds Dead, Kaskade and Pretty Lights to remix their impressive catalog of hits. Allowing Bassnectar to give Nina Simone’s song Feelin Good the extra shot of energy he did is absolutely amazing and you can check out the full project if you wanna hear more!

Help Find A Missing Girl From Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas

Help Find A Missing Girl From Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas

In what may be the only legitimate bit of good I can do as a blogger, I’m urging everyone to read and share this in hopes of helping find EDC Las Vegas attendant Veronica Delara. My heart truly goes out to those affected by this and I can only hope that this works out for the better. Las Vegas is absolutely no joke and although the festival went off mainly without issue, you really hate to hear of anything like a missing girl happening. Rave safe kids.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Missing Persons Details is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Veronica Delara.

Veronica was last seen at the Electric Daisy Carnival on Monday, June 24th 2013.

All area hospitals are to check their registries and to notify LVMPD if located. It should be noted that “HIPPA” permits disclosure to law enforcement upon request and is authorized persuant C.F.R. section 164.512.

Anyone with any information on the known whereabouts of Veronica Delara is strongly urged to contact LVMPD Missing Persons Details immediately.

Deadmau5 and Kat Von D Break Up, Follows With New Songs ‘You There?’ and Suckfest9001

Deadmau5 and Kat Von D Break Up, Follows With New Song You There

I wrote just a couple hours ago on BroBible about deadmau5 and Kat Von D breaking up and had mentioned that since his deal with Ultra Music is now officially over, we can be expecting a lot more music from Joel Zimmerman. Turns out that amid all the rumors, he kept on with business as usual and released 2 brand new tracks, ‘Suckfest9001′ and ‘You there?’. Although deadmau5′s music is not for everyone, you gotta know those melodies and chords that he comes up with are perfect and no matter what the product is, deadmau5 meticulously crafted every voice to perfection. After debuting those 2-ton mau5bots in Las Vegas this past weekend, I’m hoping there’s a lot more in store for the summer.

Dance Music Awards Show on the Horizon in 2014: Insomniac & Dick Clark Productions in ‘Special Announcement’

Dance Music Awards Show on the Horizon in 2014 Insomniac & Dick Clark Productions in 'Special Announcement'

Earlier today, at the Las Vegas-based EDMBiz conference, Insomniac Events (the people behind Electric Daisy Carnival) and Dick Clark Productions (the people behind the Golden Globes and American Music Awards) came together for a “special announcement” to unveil a partnership of the two production companies to bring a Dance Music Awards show to life in 2014.

“Creating an award show focused on all the creative components that contribute to the success of dance music (music, art, production and lighting) has been a dream of mine for years,” said Pasquale Rotella, Founder and CEO of Insomniac. “Partnering with dick clark productions was an easy decision given their experience producing the Golden Globes and the American Music Awards. I’m confident that our partnership will create an event that is focused on recognizing creativity without politics, and that it will celebrate all the elements that go into making dance music such a beautiful experience for the fans.”

This marks a huge development in the crossover of “EDM” into the mainstream now joining the ranks of every other major niche market to have their own award show (Country Music Awards, BET Awards, etc.). It doesn’t surprise me at all that Pasquale Rotella was able to make this announcement during EDC Week, the leadup to Electric Daisy Carnival: Las Vegas; I’m just curious to see which network decides to pick up the broadcast.
