The Ketchup Post: Dr. Fresch

Some artists make such an immediate impression once you discover them that it becomes a gold mine of good material. At times like these it’s absolutely time to get you all caught up with The Ketchup Post. See the rest of The Ketchup Post here!

When I first stumbled on Dr. Fresch I was blown away hearing Nate Dogg on a dance track in his track You’re My Obsession which also pulled vocals from a classic Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack song. As I began to scroll through his SoundCloud, every edit and original brought that same refined taste to funky retro production that was both enjoyable to listen to and danceable.

Dr. Fresch – You’re My Obsession (ft. Nate Dogg & Animotion)

It came with little surprise after a little digging to discover that not only is he the Dim Mak Records Resident DJ but the head of his own record label Prep School Recordings as well as the winner of the Insomniac Discovery Project Nocturnal Wonderland 2013. He’s got an absolutely golden ear and has built an impressive sound as a producer and has crafted original productions that bring the funk and remixes as diverse as you can imagine. We’re so happy to announce that Dr. Fresch will be holding down the mixing duties for ThatNewJamFM on 3/21 and we couldn’t be more excited!

Listen to the Rumble EP from Dim Mak's New Artist Garmiani

My ear has gradually moved away from real “club-type” tracks due to the fact that 95% of the music coming out pretty much sounded the same. However, SoundCloud occasionally does a great job with that on shuffle feature and I end up loving a song I never even looked at. Call it dumb luck but this Rumble EP from Garmiani, his debut on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mac Records, has a real fresh sound and a ton of energy as you’d expect from a DMR release. Whatever synth he’s got during the breakdown of the title track (and vocal mix) is a winner and the other track Dance Motherfucker is meant for only the biggest of festival speakers. And that sax is perfect…almost as good as the sexy sax man.

Joachim Garraud Ft A Girl & A Gun – Maximus (South Central Remix)

South Central Maximus remix

For those of you who don’t know South Central, they are a great group from the UK who is signed with Dim Mak Records. Whatever they put out always has a high level of intensity to it. They just came out with this great electro-house remix of a song called “Maximus.” Honestly i know nothing of the original, but if you’re looking for a hard a song that is aggressive go ahead and listen to this. If you’re into their style, you should check out this mix by them here. One of the best mini-mixes I’ve ever heard. They aren’t a big name but they really fit into my niche of music. You can buy this new remix of theirs on Beatport right here.

Dirtyphonics – Dirty (Synchronice Remix)

Jeez these Saulsky brothers are BLOWIN up. From when I stumbled upon these guys in the opening days of this blog to their debut on Dim Mak Records (the record label that belongs to Steve Aoki for those who may not know), Synchronice has always impressed me with their versatility. Not only have they crafted their own distinct appealing sound, but they’ve been able to translate it to all styles of electronic music from moombah to dubstep, progressive house to electro, and everywhere in between. This time they get to do an amazing drumstep remix of a Dirtyphonics track and it comes as no surprise that this one is every bit as awesome as you’d expect it to be. Download’s free thanks to Dim Mak so snatch it up and enjoy!

Steve Aoki – Control Freak ft. Blaqstarr & Kay (Dillon Francis Remix)

Attempting to go for the “weird ed banger vibe”, Dillon Francis can officially claim mission accomplished with this remix of Steve Aoki’s Control Freak. Complete with a funky drop filled with all sorts of crunchy bass-ey goodness that I’m sure even Mr. McMittens Francis was rocking to, the track still contains all of the melodic elements we’ve come to know with a DF release.
