I always look forward to our monthly dose of FOOOOLS GOOOOOLD spun to perfection from mixing maestro A-Trak. As someone who really likes to sit down and listen to the “art” of DJing (at the risk of sounding slightly pretentious), there’s nothing better than being able to listen to how a 5-time DMC champion chooses to put together a set. It’s generally common that I will go through an entire hour without knowing a single song beforehand and it seems to be the case again and I don’t mind a bit. Eclectic track selection meets flawless mixing to make 60 minutes of easy listening and there’s even a world premiere of the Jack Beats remix of A-Trak’s collab with GTA called Landline!

Gotta love A-Trak’s Twitter following. An hour ago he enticed his fans with a trade: in celebration of his 300K followers he asked for 300 retweets so he could release Grandtheft’s remix of Tuna Melt. An hour later he put this up on his SoundCloud and it is awesome! After Grandtheft collaborated with Diplo for their haunting Sweet Nothing remix, he’s quickly come on my map of producers to watch in the near future. This is another major moment in music as seen live on The Late Show with David Letterman and I’m not sure I would’ve ever thought I’d say that about 3 months ago. Let’s dissect this. The first portion to this is that A$AP Rocky was even ON Letterman…just another testament to this guys crazy talent. He did LongLiveA$AP and the track Wild For The Night that he performed off of Long.Live.A$AP was produced by electronic music superstars Skrillex and Birdy Nam Nam so score yet another one for the “EDM to Mainstream” crossover and the versatility of these producers. To put the icing on top, he performed the track live with three of the best DJs in the entire world in A-Trak and DJ Clark Kent and the MVP of the MPC araabMUZIK. It’s that time people. We’ve officially fallen into November which means its once again time for A-Trak to take to the decks for the monthly installment of Fools Gold Radio. In its 15th episode, the 5-time world turntablist champion spins us a great selection of tracks including his own collaboration with Lifelike and countless other tracks that I’d never heard before and then rushed to download in their entirety. You can see spurts of his technical genius around the 28th minute and after seeing him live at Camp Bisco XI, it’s safe to say there’s no denying his skill. I can’t imagine how lucky I’d have to be to get an opportunity to work with the guys at Fools Gold Records but hey we can dream right?

If you follow TNJ you know the unbelievable respect and admiration that I have for A-Trak is only second to my sheer awe of his mixing skills. He’s one of the only people I can sit and listen to for an hour, have no idea what any of the songs are, can’t tell where one of them begins or ends, and I’m still 1000% engaged. I love it. The Fool’s Gold head honcho takes to the decks again for his record label’s October mix, playing out Tuna Melt, his HUGE collaboration with the Aussie rock star Tommy Trash! This whole having no internet thing is killin me. I lost it when I saw this come out last night but couldn’t get around to hearing it until now and all I can say is WOW. Trap is evolving so quickly with producers comin from all over the place to give it a try and Oliver Twizt absolutely kills it. It still keeps the same fun quality that Dillon Francis & A-Trak brought with the original while giving it a filthy breakdown section. Looks like the whole world is runnin the trap now.
