The-Dream – High Art ft. Jay-Z

The-Dream - High Art ft. Jay-Z

The-Dream’s long-awaited album, IV Play, will be here on May 28. In the meanwhile, he’s shared another single. This one’s with Jay-Z and titled “High Art”. Sadly, this song is not an extended riff on the swap meet joke made at the GRAMMY’s.

Ray J – I Hit It First ft. Bobby Brackins (Official Video)

Ray J - I Hit It First

Writing these kind of posts always twists my gut a bit. On the one hand, it’s an interesting story full of twists and turns that offers plenty of entertainment value. On the other hand, writing about these twists is exactly what Ray J was hoping critics, fans, and bloggers would do in the face of the song’s release. Am I highlighting the industry’s faults or simply feeding its ever-present need for attention and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a name in print? With stories like this, it’s hard to know. Anyway, check out the video below and the Kim Kardashian look alike.

Kanye West – 2001 Demo Tape (Unreleased)

Kanye West - The Prerequisite

In a similar fashion to the Kendrick Lamar demo tape that surfaced, we now get a chance to listen to Kanye West’s demo tape dating back to 2001. After previously sharing both demo version of “All Falls Down” and “Bring Me Down”, fans of West can now hear the original versions of songs which ultimately found themselves landing on his debut album College Dropout, sophomore LP Late Registration, and various mixtapes. Compiled by the good folks that contribute to the KanyeToThe forums, you can grab the 15-track demo tape, currently being titled as The Prerequisite, by clicking below.

Drake – Girls Love Beyonce ft. James Fauntleroy

Drake - Girls Love Beyonce ft. James Fauntleroy

While he have taken home accolades as first, second and third on the Top 10 Softest Rappers In The Game according to one of the funniest articles I’ve read in a quick second, Drake continues to be one of the most versatile artists out there. He can murder a DJ Khaled beat, then hold his own on a track with Kendrick Lamar & A$AP Rocky and then turn around and link with James Fauntleroy of Cocaine80s for this slow-jam aptly titled “Girls Love Beyonce”.

Miguel – How Many Drinks? (remix) ft. Kendrick Lamar

Miguel - How Many Drinks? (remix) ft. Kendrick Lamar

In a lot of ways, Kendrick Lamar and Miguel are mirror images, fast-rising counterparts in their respective genres. Both made noise online in early 2012 thanks to material released outside the normal industry process (Miguel with the free Art Dealer Chic EP trilogy, K-Dot with the iTunes-only Section.80). Then both guys honed their craft over the ensuing months, followed by a potent, forward-thinking and incredibly cohesive full-length later in 2012. The similarity isn’t lost on Miguel: when discussing why he enlisted Lamar for the remix of “How Many Drinks?” he said, “Kendrick is poised to be the next staple in hip-hop [and] I certainly intend on becoming that for R&B”.

Rudimental Ft. John Newman- Feel The Love (Kill Paris Remix)

Kill Paris put his name on the map back in late February with his To A New Earth EP, out now on the OWSLA label. This man is at it again with his newest remix to Rudimental’s year old single featuring John Newman. This LA based producer makes music so funky that you almost think the White Cherry’s song “Play that funky music white boy” is about him, and this song is no different. I had the pleasure of seeing the debut of Kill Paris at his first Ultra Music Festival performance week one,  early on a Saturday afternoon and he certainly did not disappoint. A little bit into his set he announced to the crowd that he was about to play a new song and then this beauty came slamming through the speakers at the OWSLA stage. Be sure to give this one a listen, out now on Beatport.

Wiz Khalifa – Let It Go ft. Akon (Official Video)

Wiz Khalifa - Let It Go (Official Video)

Wiz Khalifa may be a new father, but he still has a rap career to take care of. Today, the Pittsburgh rapper drops a video for “Let It Go”, featuring Akon, the latest single from his O.N.I.F.C. album. Over sweeping, atmospheric production courtesy of Jo A and I.D. Labs, the Taylor Gang MC rhymes about achieving success despite any detractors along the way. However, the video’s treatment also features a pole athlete trying to get her life together, and cutting dead weight along the way.
