Lorde – Royals

lordebg

She may only be sixteen, but she’s ‘in love with being Queen.’ Lorde is a New Zealand teen and singer expressing her high and mighty ego with an eclectic combination of sounds through her track ‘Royals.’ The young singer reminds me a bit of of Icelandic singer Emiliana Torrini with the swag and attitude of M.I.A. The following track is rebellious, badass, yet completely laid back. If you know you’re a f–king boss, this is the perfect track for you.

Noah And The Whale – There Will Come A Time

noah

UK band Noah and The Whale recently released the video for their latest track ‘There Will Come A Time’ and it is a great listen this Friday morning. It is the most recent single off of their upcoming album, “Heart of Nowhere” – set for release May 6th.

The bands’ two hits ’5 Years Time’ and ‘L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N’, were anthems of my summer last year, and I can surely see ‘There Will Come A Time’ making its way onto my summer playlist this year too. It is your standard indie-pop, easy to listen to, blissful track. No complications here – definitely a ‘happy-happy-joy-joy’ composition.

The music video is a teaser for a short film that will come with the album (it is actually directed by front man Charlie Fink!) and it is entitled There Will Come A Time as well.

RAC - Lovefool (ft. Liz Anjos)

I gotta give it up to André Allen Anjos and the rest of the RAC; no matter what it is that they release, I’m always smiling and tapping my foot by the end of it. This cover of Lovefool by The Cardigans keeps all of the feel good vibes intact and employs some awesome live instrumentation to give the song some fresh new life. This came as a celebration of 30K Facebook fans so check their assorted links below and enjoy the free download!

Today is now March 18th and although the calendar says Spring is coming sometime around now, I’m currently sitting in the Binghamton University library staring out at a FUCKING SNOWSTORM. Thankfully while I’m sitting here wildly underdressed and freezing my ASS off, I can at least take solace that there’s a little bit of summertime, all the time wherever Viceroy is involved. Vampire Weekend – Diane Young/Step

Vampire-Weekend-Diane-Young

Vampire Weekend has officially released not one but TWO songs off of their third album: Modern Vampires In The City. The upbeat, drum-n-Elvis infused tune ‘Diane Young’ and the calming, regal-n-royal inspired ‘Step’ are both refreshing in their own unique ways. Check out each track below.

Magic Man – Paris

magic man

Magic Man is an indie pop/rock band hailing from the Northeast – Providence, RI to be exact. Their latest release, ‘Paris,’ opens with a bright piano melody that has a bit of a Matt and Kim vibe. The piano is met by an easy-on-the-ears, synth-pop backdrop and soft, charming vocals that tie the tune together. This is a verrrry smooth listen friends, enjoy.

Fyfe – Solace

fyfe

Fyfe is a bit of a magical mystery musician. What we do know about him is that he is a mere 23 years old and hails from London – and oh yes, he has turned out quite the dreamy track – ‘Solace.’

Upon first listen, my ears perked up to identify vocals that resemble Two Door Cinema Clubs lead singer Alex Trimble, and an impressionistic intro that reminded me of a mix of Fool on the Hill and Strawberry Fields off of the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album.

The song takes you into a dream world full of low-key guitar riffs, entrancing vocals and mesmerizing lyrics. The singer talks about the difficulties that define life, but does so in a way you can’t help but define as beautiful. After one listen I find myself repeating the chorus, ‘I will lay my head down, ‘till some sense has been found.” The talented musicians EP will be released April 7th.

Matt Costa – Good Times

If you’re looking for an Edward Sharpe-esque anthem to listen to this Sunday, have no fear, Matt Costas’ ‘Good Times’ is here. The singer/songwriters self-titled, fourth album was released this week, and I have had this particular track on repeat.

The song talks about returning to the basics in life, and the singer supports his humble lyrics with an old school 70’s pop compilation of sounds. The album is available for purchase on iTunes and for your listening pleasure on Spotify. I also decided to put up the lyrics video so you all can get your sing-a-long on! Enjoy this one TNJ peeps, cheers and Happy Sunday.

Foals – My Number

Oxford indie rock band Foals is returning this year with a new album, Holy Fire, set for release on Feb. 11th. ‘My Number’ is one of the most infectious singles on the album, and it seems like the band is truly giving other indie bands a run for their money this album around. Check out the bands fab performance of the tune live at the famous Abbey Road Studio in London below.

Urban Cone – Freak

urban cone - freak

TNJ peeps, I just purchased myself an Urban Cone ticket for Mercury Lounge in NYC this Thursday. Needless to say, I’m totally stoked and wanted to share one of their most tranquilizing jams with you. The single, titled ‘Freak,’ upholds a bold, dark, pulsating backbone, yet it supports a light melody at the same time. Any Miike Snow fans out there? This one may be right up your alley…
