Childish Gambino – 3005 [Throwback Jam]

As all TNJ fans know, there are times when I just miss the bus completely and come way late to the party on certain artists. It’s not that I don’t know who Childish Gambino is or that I haven’t listened to his music either… in fact I saw him live with Logic when they came to Binghamton a little over a year ago. I knew that he came from a television/writing background and all that stuff but it took me up until about now to appreciate the artistry that goes into the execution of his ideas. I URGE you guys to go check out the web page for the announcement of his Deep Web Tour (interestingly done in collaboration with WordPress.com) on his official website. He just released his first of 3 updates from the bus which is done through what feels to be an infinitely scrolling web page featuring patterns, videos and photos all interwoven with scratchings of his handwriting and a note written from the rode. Really cool stuff. I stumbled on all of this because my brother reposted 3005 to his SoundCloud account so go check everything out below.

Throwback Jam: Mansions On The Moon – Rest Of Your Days

Throwback Jams are the songs that still make you stop and listen no matter how long it’s been since they came out. We throw them up as we can and put them up for you guys to rediscover; check the rest of our Throwback Jams!

It has been too long since I’ve really sat down and revisited some old music and it seems that there are certain songs that will never lose their magic. When I first discovered Mansions On The Moon, I was still just discovering the various styles of electronic music while still looking to expand my horizons in indie music, which I had loved forever. Their combination of big, airy, electronic and rock elements had me hooked but their track Rest Of Your Days really caught my attention. The Crosby Stills and Nash style harmonies they used over just a simple acoustic guitar was such a refreshing change of pace from what I was listening to at the time and even now, it still moves me every time I listen to it. I raved about their latest project, the Full Moon EP, over on ThatNewJam.fm this past summer and I think its about time you guys took a listen to what got me so excited in the first place.

Dirty Vegas – Days Go By

days go by dirty vegas

We are interrupting your regularly scheduled NYE programming for this throwback that has been stuck in my head for the last 2 days thanks to the Saulsky brothers of Synchronice. If you don’t remember the original Dirty Vegas track from either the Mitsubishi Eclipse commercials way back or possibly the worlds greatest music video with the breakdancer, please educate yourself below before proceeding. This was all spun into motion when Synchronice uploaded an acoustic cover of the song that they did while bored and snowed in this past weekend and you can check that below the video.

Diplo – Barely Standing ft. Datsik & Sabi

diplo datsik sabi barely standing

When it comes down to it, different is sometimes foolproof. With that said, it should come as no surprise that Diplo specializes in different and when you give Thomas Wesley Pentz free reign over Datsik’s sound library the result is nothing short of menacing. I can’t try and pass this off as “new” BUT that doesn’t mean I can’t post it; chalk it up to a recommitment to the throwback post I guess! If you’re lookin for something a little bit different at that sexy ass 110 BPM look no further than Diplo and Datsik!

Pretty Lights vs. The End Of The World 2012

pretty lights end of the world 2012

Sometimes the talents of Derek Vincent Smith aka Pretty Lights just flat out astound me. One of his most appealing characteristics to me is his appreciation of not only what is good about new music, but keeping his roots with him and infusing his sounds with those that were big in the past. Placing Black Sabbath over his own drum tracks, adding in lyrics from The Doors and R.E.M.’s end of the world anthem, and then a hip-hop verse just goes to show that his work is truly innovative and expansive. Good on ya man, TNJ loves what comes out of the speakers when the Pretty Lights name is attached.

A Kanye West Throwback Post

On this cold Sunday in November, I felt the urge to dig through the iTunes library and pull out his Freshman Adjustment Volume 3 tape that dropped way back in 2007. On it are some “classic” Kanye beats and lyrics including the two I’m providing below. Consume and enjoy.

Kanye West – Heartless (Aaron Bond Remix)

Just came across this dope Aaron Bond remix to Ye’s 808′s & Heartbreak record “Heartless” this morning from one of my old DJ set lists. The reason Bond’s take did so well was because of the filtered syncopated drum rhythm that lead you to believe the song was at a much faster tempo than it actually was, allowing for a great mid-set dance track. Enjoy!

Alexisonfire – To A Friend (Adventure Club Remix)

I’m honestly not sure that anyone is skyrocketing up my list of favorite producers quite like Adventure Club has been lately. The Canadian dubstep duo take on my favorite song from fellow Candians Alexisonfire with just ridiculous results. I used to have this song blasting at all the time and their signature brand of melodic dubstep couldn’t fit better to accentuate Dallas Green’s haunting vocals. Instantly download this one which they gave away for free on their Facebook page without any reserves, 100% satisfaction guaranteed here.
