The Shameless Shuffle

The Shameless Shuffle #006

Yeah I know. I kinda slacked with this one for a while (to the tune of almost 3 months) but after a revisiting the mission statement of TNJ this weekend with my brother, I’m making a commitment to keeping up with The Shameless Shuffle. One of our goals here is to take the foot off the gas occasionally to appreciate the music we used to love; while the motto here is “new is always better”, sometimes there’s nothing better than discovering those lost iTunes gems. We got 5 tunes that go from classic Scarface hip-hop to the alternative stylings of AFI, Classic Tribe and The Killers to the grungy electronic sounds of The M Machine. For those of you wondering, Classic Tribe is a band from my home town that is no longer together but has some of the most complex guitar work and overall musicality that I’ve heard in a while.

Scarface – My Block

Classic Tribe – Little Boots

The M Machine – Glow (Original Mix)

The Killers – Mr. Brightside

AFI – Miss Murder

The Shameless Shuffle #005

In what can only be described as a miracle, I’m gettin the shameless shuffle off on Sunday for 2 weeks in a row and this one is a little all over the place. A soul jam from Usher, a metal banger from Disturbed, some Modest Mouse and Simon & Garfunkel and of course the man Frank Buick to round out a quite diverse lineup. Real surprised I didn’t pull any electronic music. Till next week!

When in doubt, its never a bad idea to throw on some Usher. Besides being a quintessential JAM, this 2004 single (I can’t believe it’s been this long) off his Confessions album spent 8 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 and invaded every possible air wave for what felt like 8 months.
Usher – Let It Burn – DOWNLOAD LINK

The kid just killed it in Rockville Center at The Vibe Lounge last night and opening with this one really set the tone. Chunky Boy Product always has quality so see the rest of the All Aboard EP for more of the like.
Frank Buick – Get It – DOWNLOAD LINK

I knew it was only a matter of time before Disturbed came up on this. I was a huge fan of their awesome guitar work and honestly, who had a cooler voice or chin rings than David Draiman?
Disturbed – Prayer – DOWNLOAD LINK

Well now we’re just goin all over the place. Good thing I’m a sucker for red afros and the use of xylophone at the end.
Simon & Garfunkel – Cecilia – DOWNLOAD LINK

It’s so hard not to like Modest Mouse. They have absolutely no fear when it comes to taking risks and bringing something new to the table as demonstrated by the variety in their songs.

The Shameless Shuffle #004

I know this is a strange concept but I’m actually gettin this one out to you guys on Sunday as promised. Big tracks from 30 Seconds to Mars, Tiesto, Army of the Pharaohs, Big Sean & Kanye West and a Jon Bellion CLASSIC.

Great song & great video from Jared Leto and the rest of 30 Seconds To Mars. I was never a dedicated listener of theirs but I can’t remember not liking anything by them that I heard.
30 Seconds to Mars – The Kill – DOWNLOAD LINK

One of my first ever introductions to EDM, this classic Tiesto track is the perfect mix between gritty electro and beautiful trance.
Tiesto – Maximal Crazy – DOWNLOAD LINK

Army of the Pharaohs were an offshoot of the Jedi Mind Tricks underground rap collective and this track is just chock full of unbelievable bars.
Army of the Pharaohs – Seven – DOWNLOAD LINK

Autotuned Kanye West hook, unbelievable piano work, heartfelt verses from a hungry Big Sean with respect to his mom; this track of the G.O.O.D. Ass Mixtape’s got a special spot in my heart.
Big Sean ft. Kanye West – Whatever You Want – DOWNLOAD LINK

I’m not one to say I told you so…but when I told you on the first day this site ever existed that Jon Bellion was destined for greatness did you really think I was exaggerating?

The Shameless Shuffle #003

My bad for gettin this one out on Monday morning but regardless here’s the third week of The Shameless Shuffle! This week we’ve got some of my favorite tracks from a couple years ago with tracks from Bayside, Chevelle and Angels & Airwaves as well as some new jams from Steve Aoki and Mac Miller!

This song from Chevelle is still a staple in all of my workout/pre-rugby playlists. The gritty bass line has so much swagger that still gets me completely wild today.
Chevelle – The Clincher – DOWNLOAD LINK

Steve Aoki found the winning formula with his party oriented electro house and this track is one of the most fun to rage to from his Wonderland album.
Steve Aoki – Steve Jobs [The 80's] ft. Angger Dimas – DOWNLOAD LINK

This is an absolute classic off his K.I.D.S mixtape that samples Owl City’s major hit Firefly. This was the track that gave me my introduction to Mr. Miller’s unique brand of hip-hop.
Mac Miller – Don’t Mind If I Do – DOWNLOAD LINK

Kind of a misfit off of Bayside’s Acoustic album released after the death of their drummer Johnny Beatz, it’s still a great song when taken as it’s own work from one of my favorite bands of all time.
Bayside – Paternal Reversal – DOWNLOAD LINK

I can’t tell you how many times I listened to this song and told everyone within earshot about it when it first came out back in 2005. I still like to go watch the music video, which visualizes Angels & Airwaves perfectly with the space oriented theme.

The Shameless Shuffle #002

It’s Sunday again which means its time to go digging through my iTunes again to bring you guys the second installment of The Shameless Shuffle. Apologies for missing out on last Sunday, I was still in the process of rejoining the real world after a weekend at Camp Bisco XI. This week features a huge variety of tracks with classics from KoRn, Zeds Dead & Omar Linx, Cherry Coke, Avicii, and Lil Wayne!

I honestly forgot I even had this song but there’s a reason this track took home a Grammy way back in the day. KoRn had one of the most menacing sounds out there and the quasi-beatboxing on this one was a game changer.
KoRn – Freak On A Leash – DOWNLOAD LINK

There are few better marriages of genres than the entire Victor mixtape from Zeds Dead & Omar Linx. The sample work from Zeds Dead is flawless and their signature big time bass makes this one an absolute classic. Hearing this one blasted out on a full size live sound system at Camp Bisco was one of the craziest things I’ve ever experienced.
Zeds Dead & Omar Linx – Coffee Break

Right at the beginning of my fascination with EDM, I was huge into big room progressive house songs with airey/trancey vocals and this was one of my earliest and favorite from Polish producer Cherry Coke.
Sunloverz ft. Rozette – Fire (Cherry Coke Remix) – DOWNLOAD LINK

To this day this might be one of my favorite songs to drop in any time I’m bullshittin with Djing. Don’t dismiss Avicii’s production chops just because you’re ready to throw yourself out a window if you hear Levels one more time (I’m right there with you guys), this track is absolute gold.
Phonat – Set Me Free (Avicii Remix) – DOWNLOAD LINK

I was mostly disappointed by The Carter III when it was released but this Kanye West produced slow jam was a small gem on the album.
Lil Wayne – Comfortable ft. Babyface – DOWNLOAD LINK

The Shameless Shuffle #001

Welcome to the first official TNJ Shameless Shuffle. Every Sunday, we’re turning loose one of our author’s iTunes library on shuffle for the first 5 songs that pop up. Part of the idea for starting this site was making it a spot where you can enjoy good music, not always necessarily the newest and when your looking for those old jams, sometimes you just gotta let your iTunes go and see what comes up. For the first week, I couldn’t have been happier with my shuffle featuring CLASSICS from Goldfinger, Big Sean, Kanye West, Far East Movement, and The Postal Service!

Goldfinger is a staple of any summer playlist and there’s gotta be a few of you guys who recognize Superman from the ORIGINAL Tony Hawk!
Goldfinger – Superman – DOWNLOAD LINK

For anyone who questions Ye’s production chops should probably figure out how he flipped a Steely Dan song into an entire beat and get back to me.
Kanye West – Champion – DOWNLOAD LINK

I’m not saying that my iTunes is filled with all gold medal winners but this is shameless right!?
Far East Movement – Like A G6 (Remix) ft. 50 Cent – DOWNLOAD LINK

This is possibly one of the most played tracks in my entire library; it was my first introduction to Big Sean & right at the beginning of my fascination with all things Swelly.
Big Sean – Too Fake ft. Chiddy Bang – DOWNLOAD LINK

Definition of a high school classic. I was a HUGE DCFC & Postal Service fan so this seems to be a fitting close to our first segment.
The Postal Service – Such Great Heights – DOWNLOAD LINK
